How I Inspire

Being able to share my experiences can be of inspiration to many. I know this to be true because hearing success stories of others often inspires me. I try to inspire others through my writing. I enjoy writing personal essays for people to read and gain encouragement from. I want people to know that I struggle just like they do and they are not alone.

Priorities... What's More Important

Last week NYC had a week long winter blast of cold winds and freezing temperatures. (So I opted to stay inside of my warm apartment for the majority of the week). Last Thursday I was watching the news and they were covering all weather related topics. One major story they reported was about all the stray dogs on the streets and how to people could and should be helping them during the winter blast...

How I'm Inspired

Inspiration these days is something that I feel is kind of hard to find. When you look around there are plenty of reasons that can cause a person to be unmotivated and lazy. In my opinion people are so focused on a quick come up, they are not interested in putting in the necessary work to reach their dreams and achieve their goals. Seeing these types of people is precisely what inspires me.

Soy Afro- Panameña!

“What are you? I thought you were black!”
I often hear this when people  find out my parents are Panamanian.  Looking down at my arm  and responding with a sarcastic, “Oh, I thought I was too,” is how I usually dismiss the statement when I am not in the mood to explain the difference between race and ethnicity. Being questioned about my background is something I have grown accustom to, as it has happened my entire life. As a result, I have made it a point to represent my culture whenever possible.

Natural Born Orgullo

Embracing my Panamanian and West Indian background was something that was taught to me at a very young age.  Both of my parents were born and raised in Panamá, but past generation from both sides of their families originated from West Indian countries. My father’s family is from Barbados and my mother’s family is from Jamaica. Both families migrated to Panamá to help with the construction of the Panamá Canal. This is where my family gets our darker pigmentation and our West Indian traditions from. Being a direct decedent of Panamanian parents is something I have always held close to me,like a badge of honor, displaying it proudly throughout my entire life by wearing T-shirts and accessories with the Panamá flag on them.

Illegal vs Undocumented

I do not claim to know much about politics, but a recent writing
assignment has me researching all kinds of different Acts, Laws, and Measures.
While researching I came across several different articles that had to do
with immigration and the reform plans that President Obama
will try to have passed in his second term.

Seeing as though all my family members are legal (I think), I never
paid much attention to immigration issues. And I, like many others, used
the term "Illegal Immigrant" to describe a specific group of people.

Ice Cube vs O'Shea Jackson

Recently I had a conversation with a few people about Hip Hop music
and how it has changed throughout the years.

Then we started talking about 90s rappers who have changed their image and
of course Ice Cube's name came up several times. The people I was talking to
said Ice Cube could no longer sell himself as a gangsta rapper because he makes
movies that cater to children/families. Some even said he has ruined his image.

Be Healthy: Oranges

    1. Oranges are rich in fibres
The fibres in oranges are good for the digestive system and relieving constipation. Fibres also reduce cholesterol which is helpful in preventing atherosclerosis. Fibres are also good in keeping the blood sugar levels in control.
    2. Cardiovascular health
The high content of Vitamin C, flavonoids and phytonutrients in citrus fruits reduce the risk of heart disease.

This happened in November, but nonetheless it's necessary that I post it.
