Black Wall Street

The Date Was June 1, 1921,

The name fittingly given to one of the most affluent All-BLACK
Communities in America, was bombed from the air and Burned
to the ground by mobs of envious Whites.
In a period spanning fewer than 12 hours, a once thriving Black
Business District in northern Tulsa lay smoldering -- a model
Community destroyed and a major African-American economic
movement resoundingly defused.

Stand Like An Oak Tree

The Oak Tree
by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr.
A mighty wind blew night and day.
It stole the Oak Tree's leaves away.
Then snapped its boughsand pulled its bark
until the Oak was tired and stark.
But still the Oak Tree held its ground
while other trees fell all around.
The weary wind gave up and spoke,
"How can you still be standing Oak?"
The Oak Tree said, I know that you
can break each branch of mine in two,
carry every leaf away,
shake my limbs and make me sway.

But I have roots stretched in the earth,
growing stronger since my birth.
You'll never touch them, for you see
they are the deepest part of me.

Happy Birthday MLK

"I just want to do God's will. And he's allowed me to go to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the promised land! I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land." - Martin Luther King Jr.
